I don't tend to blather on about recipes being life changing, however I am going to make a very rare exception for my Slow Cooker Bolognese Sauce.
This is what your slow cooker was made to do.
This Slow Cooker Bolognese Sauce is the best classic meat sauce ever!
Ingredients of Slow Cooker Bolognese Sauce
- It's 1 lb of ground meat of choice.
- You need 2-3 of carrots, peeled and sliced.
- It's 3 stalks of celery, sliced.
- You need 1/2 of onion, peeled and diced.
- You need 1 of green bell pepper.
- It's 2 cloves of garlic, minced.
- It's 28 oz of crushed tomatoes.
- It's 1/2 cup of half and half.
- It's to taste of pepper, basil, thyme, oregano, rosemary, sage.
- Prepare to taste of Parmesan cheese.
Slow Cooker Bolognese Sauce step by step
- Brown meat in a pan and drain..
- Add vegetables. Cook until just starting to soften.
- Add half and half and cook it down til it's gone..
- Dump it all into the slow cooker. Add tomatoes and spices..
- Cook on low 8-10 hours. Serve over your favorite starch (pasta, rice, potatoes, whathaveyou).
Consisting of carrots, onion and celery, this mixture is a great flavor weapon, and in chunkier form, is called a mirepoix in French cooking. Photo: Greg Dupree; Styling: Heather Chadduck Hillegas. Heat the oil in a large pan and fry the bacon and mince in batches until browned. Add the onions, carrots, celery, garlic, mushrooms, tomatoes, tomato purée, herbs, wine (if using), vinegar, sugar and seasoning to the slow cooker. So if I were to brown the beef in the slow cooker, I'd have to do it in batches anyway because otherwise it would be (very!) overcrowded and the beef would end up stewing instead.
